JENNINGS, La. (AP) - Plans are being finalized for construction of an $8.7 million, 200-bed regional consolidated jail just off U.S. Highway 90 west of Jennings.

Engineer Chuck Stutes said Wednesday that final plans and specifications for the jail have been finished and will be presented to the state for final approval this week.

Stutes says the state facility planning office manager will review the plans and specifications and should issue a response letter in two to three weeks.

Stutes tells the American Press (http://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) he hopes to start advertising for the project in January and receive bids in February.

He says construction could begin by March or April. The project would take about 1 1/2 years to complete.
