NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - A Hudson Valley man serving a 15-year prison sentence for stabbing a police officer during a street brawl outside a nightclub has sued six police officers for $20 million.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/1OBWTsv ) Larry Gantt Jr. says in the federal lawsuit that Newburgh’s former police chief and five officers violated his constitutional rights.

The Poughkeepsie man alleges that officers stood by and watched while he was stabbed multiple times during the November 2012 brawl.

Gantt was convicted of assault and attempted aggravated assault on a police officer in the melee. The officer was stabbed in the neck, arm and back but survived.
