PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A 22-year-old woman who went for a walk entered a fenced-in yard a few doors down and was killed by two dogs.

Rebecca Hardy had extensive injuries to her face and neck and died at a hospital Thursday, Port Huron police said.

She’s the second person in Michigan to die this week from dog attacks after a 4-year-old Detroit boy was mauled by pit bulls while walking with his mother.

A pit bull and a pit bull-husky mix were taken to a St. Clair County shelter, where they were quarantined, after the attack on Hardy, Lt. Scott Pike said. Pike said the owner was cooperating.

Hardy’s fiance, Matthew Grattan, said she left his house in Port Huron, 55 miles northeast of Detroit, after an argument. He speculates that she was in the alley and had decided to cut through the yard where the dogs were to get back to 10th Street.

“Nobody was there. Nobody knows what happened and why,” Grattan told the Times Herald in Port Huron (http://bwne.ws/1O7ITCd ).

Barbara Buffington, who lives in the neighborhood, said the dogs hadn’t been a problem in the past.

“I just sat on the couch and watched everything,” she said, referring to the arrival of police.
