PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Portland Streetcar is planning to temporarily close five stops in downtown Portland in an effort to cut down on travel times.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/wUmGBs ) that the trial is expected to begin in February and last at least a month. The skipped stops will be ones where frequent stops take a toll on travel time and where collisions tend to block tracks.

Portland Streetcar Inc. Executive Director Dan Bower says riders and non-riders say the streetcar needs to be faster to be useful.
