MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The fatal shooting of a 30-year-old Minot man was gang-related and further violence is possible in retaliation for the killing, police said.

Capt. John Klug said Sunday’s fatal shooting shows that the victim, Roger Falana, has ties to a gang in Florida and the suspect in the case, Johnny Norwood, 25, is associated with a gang in Long Beach, California.

“We do have a heightened awareness on the law enforcement side,” Klug told KXMC-TV (https://bit.ly/1TrVPa0 ).

Klug said Norwood is being sought on charges of murder, attempted murder using a firearm and reckless endangerment. Court records did not list an attorney for Norwood.

Police have said reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting.

Police said the shooting happened just after 3 a.m. on Nov. 29. They said a caller reported multiple gunshots in an alley, and officers arrived to find two victims with gunshot wounds.

Falana, who had been living in Minot but was originally from Florida, was killed. A 43-year-old woman who has not been named was treated for injuries.

Minot Police received information from an investigator in West Palm Beach, Florida, that associates of Falana’s were on their way up to Minot to retaliate, Klug said.

Police are taking the threat seriously and have warned officers to be especially alert in the coming days to the possibility of gang activity, Klug said.

“I don’t see a major concern from the public’s standpoint,” Klug said. “I think that if we’re living a good, honest life it’s going to have little effect on our day-to-day life. “

Investigators are looking into the possibility that there is a connection between last week’s shooting and a 2013 attempted murder in Minot, where a man was shot and wounded, Klug said.
