IRVING, Texas (AP) - An overnight police standoff following an attempted home robbery in suburban Dallas has ended with one suspect shot and killed and two others taken into custody.

Police responded to a call from an Irving home around 2 a.m. Saturday, after three masked men were reported to have forced their way into a home.

Upon their arrival, one man was detained, but two others fled to a nearby location. Neighbors were ordered to shelter in place.

Police say one suspect brandished a handgun and eventually opened fire on officers.

Three officers returned fire, killing one of the suspects. No officers were reported injured.
