EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Brandon Marshall thought Cullen Jenkins took his trash talk too far.

The New York Jets wide receiver needed to be restrained while arguing with the Giants defensive lineman in the second quarter of a 23-20 overtime win Sunday.

“I think there are some things that are off-limits,” Marshall said. “I believe in trash talk. Some guys get up for that, but some things are off-limits. He made a comment about, he said (something about) my ‘girl.’ He didn’t know I was married.”

Marshall, who said Jenkins later apologized to him, didn’t disclose exactly what else was said, but made it clear he wasn’t happy.

“There’s not enough money on this Earth for somebody to disrespect my wife,” he said. “I just try to take it out in between the lines. I don’t care about anything at that point.”

Marshall said Jenkins came up to him later in the game and the two talked it through.

“He said he didn’t mean to do it,” Marshall said. “He thought maybe I had four or five girls or something. I’m happily married, to one woman, my wife, Michi Marshall. And I will fight to the end for her.”

Marshall had 12 catches for 131 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown pass with 27 seconds left in the fourth quarter that forced overtime. Marshall, who leads the Jets with 1,062 receiving yards, also became the first player in NFL history with a 1,000-yard receiving season with four teams (Denver, Miami, Chicago and the Jets).

Marshall was in good spirits after the game, looking into the TV cameras and sending a message to his wife about taking on the 6-foot-2, 305-pound Jenkins.

“So there you go, baby,” the 6-4, 230-pound Marshall said, smiling. “He’s 500 pounds and I went after him. But, no, he’s a good sport. I appreciate that he apologized. … I said, ‘Come on, Jenk, you can’t do that, man.’ He said, ‘I didn’t know you were married. I apologize.’ It’s good.”
