ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers have opened a criminal investigation into a snowmobile crash that left one man dead and another seriously injured in a southwest Alaska village.

Troopers say 32-year-old Simeon Duny died in the crash Saturday night at Alakanuk (a-LAK’-a-nuk) and 25-year-old Dan Augline was injured. Both men lived in the village.

Augline was flown to Bethel for treatment.

Troopers took a call on the crash just before 9:30 p.m.

Troopers say alcohol was a factor in the crash. An autopsy for Duny has been ordered.

Alakanuk is a village of 750 at Alakanuk Pass, the major southern channel of the Yukon River. The village is 162 miles northwest of Bethel.
