PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Portland police are investigating the discovery of a suspicious package that caused a busy office building that houses the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Maine office to be evacuated.

City Police Chief Michael Sauschuck tells the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1TTGQ9D ) the package was left in the building on purpose. The package was discovered on Monday morning and determined not to be explosive. Police closed off a busy street to traffic while they inspected the package.

The building also houses the U.S. Secret Service and law firm Bernstein Shur.

Sauschuck would not say whether the package was placed in the building because of the government offices. Police say they will review security camera footage from the building.
