JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A central Arkansas school board has voted to hire a Nebraska firm to conduct a search for a new superintendent.

The interim, seven-member school board for the new Jacksonville/North Pulaski School District unanimously voted Monday to hire McPherson & Jacobson LLC for $9,000.

Interim Superintendent Bobby G. Lester is set to retire June 30. He recommended the firm to board members, saying it has previous experience conducting candidate searches for Arkansas jobs.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/16qYNtx ) reports consultant Kieth Williams emphasized that the successful candidate will need to know the state’s school finance laws and the latest curriculum and instruction, among other things.

Voters in September overwhelming supported the creation of the Jacksonville-area district from parts of the Pulaski County Special district.
