BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A Bay City police officer who was shot in the leg by an armed robbery suspect has been discharged from the hospital.

Officer Brandon Murphy left the hospital Tuesday on crutches. Public Safety Director Michael J. Cecchini tells The Bay City Times (http://bit.ly/18MQlpi ) that Murphy is expected to make a full recovery and eventually return to duty.

Cecchini says Murphy was shot in the left thigh early Monday after confronting a home invasion suspect. He says the 14-year veteran returned fire, striking the suspect several times.

Although the suspect was previously listed in critical condition, Cecchini says he’s expected to survive.

The Michigan State Police is investigating the incident, which is standard for any police-involved shooting.
