WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser is celebrating Black History Month with a visit to Martin Luther King Elementary School in southeast Washington.

The mayor will be reading “The Story of Ruby Bridges” by Robert Coles to kindergarten and second-grade students on Wednesday. The book is the true story of Ruby Bridges, who as a 6-year-old became the first African American to attend an all-white school in New Orleans in 1960.

The mayor’s office says she will also announce her appointee for the director of the mayor’s office on African American Affairs.
