LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies have suspended their search for a 51-year-old man who may have fallen into the Niagara River.

Coast Guard officials in Buffalo called off the search Tuesday afternoon after crews spent about 12 hours looking along the river in the Niagara County town of Lewiston, just north of Niagara Falls.

Authorities say they received a report late Monday night that a Lewiston man was reported missing after walking down to the river earlier that night. Officials say a search turned up food prints in the snow leading from his home to the river bank.

Air and ground rescue crews from the Coast Guard, sheriff’s office, and the local police and fire departments helped in the search.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.
