BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A former state agency chief wants to be Bloomington’s next mayor.

The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1BZr3wt) Democrat John Hamilton filed papers for the office Monday morning.

Incumbent Mark Kruzan (kroo-ZAN’) announced in November he would not seek a fourth term. Kruzan defeated Hamilton in the 2011 Democratic primary for the office.

Hamilton, a Bloomington native and the nephew of former U.S. Rep Lee Hamilton, is a former Monroe County Community School Corp. board member and has served on the city’s sustainability commission. He also formerly served as secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and commissioner of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Hamilton currently is president of City First Enterprises, a nonprofit bank holding company that promotes social justice and expanding opportunities for low-income communities.
