SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says he and wife Diana are planning to spend their first night at the governor’s mansion in Springfield.

Rauner told reporters the couple have been staying at a hotel the last few days, but would spend Tuesday night at the residence. He says there’s work to be done on the structure, but “it’s in better shape than his fraternity house.”

The mansion has been the official residence of the governor since 1855, but the two previous governors lived mostly in Chicago.

The third floor had to be closed because of a leaky roof. An elevator is broken and ceilings and walls are damaged.

The Rauners have pledged to make it their home. Rauner says he plans to use private funding for repairs.
