ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. (AP) - Ellsworth Air Force Base has deployed 350 airmen to a southwest Asia operating base.

KOTA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1xutPa8 ) the airmen from the 28th Bomb Wing were deployed Tuesday morning. The Air Force won’t say to which country or base the wing has been deployed.

The troops will support B-1 combat missions for the U.S. Central Command, which has responsibilities for areas where the Islamic State group is operating in Iraq and Syria. They will also support missions in Afghanistan, where the U.S. is still engaged.

Senior Airman Justin Alfonsi tells the news station that he’s nervous but ready to tackle his first deployment.

Alfonsi says getting “the mission done” is what he signed up for.
