GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas man has been charged with having banned weapons after police discovered six military-style assault rifles in his SUV.

Williamson County jail records show Jeremy Reid Garcia of Kerrville was being held Wednesday on a charge of possession and transportation of prohibited weapons. Bond was set at $100,000.

Georgetown police early Saturday stopped Garcia’s SUV after receiving reports of a driver weaving through traffic on southbound Interstate 35.

An affidavit says the officer detected the smell of marijuana. A search turned up six assault rifles in a basket covered by a blanket.

The warrant says Garcia told police he was asked to transport the basket from Dallas to the border town of Roma and didn’t know the contents.

An attorney for Garcia didn’t immediately return a message Wednesday.
