NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) - The Norfolk City Council has narrowly approved a request to build an eight-bay hangar at Norfolk Regional Airport.

Mayor Sue Fuchtman voted yes to break the council’s 4-4 tie at Tuesday’s meeting. The Norfolk Airport Authority had sought approval for the hangar and taxiway project.

Bond funding will cost taxpayers $60,000 a year for 10 years to cover the local share. Dan Geary with the Airport Authority says federal grants are available to pay 90 percent of the project costs.

Airport Authority board members say they have been turning away requests to rent hangar space because none has been available.
