A Massachusetts judge has allowed a 39-year-old Framingham man to avoid jail time by posting bail with his new Nike sneakers.

Jason Duval told Judge Douglas Stoddart that he didn’t have the money to post bail but would be willing to offer up the new Nike sneakers he got for Christmas, valued at around $85, in lieu of payment, the MetroWest Daily News reported.

“OK, we’ll take them,” Judge Stoddart reportedly said.

Framingham Police arrested Mr. Duval Thursday on an outstanding warrant stemming from 2012 charges of two counts of illegal drug possession and driving to endanger, the paper reported.

The court issued the warrant for Mr. Duval’s arrest after he failed to pay the $450 in court fees to have the charges dismissed.

The judge accepted the shoes as bail and told Mr. Duval he would get the sneakers back after he paid $100 in $25 weekly installments, beginning Jan. 13, the Daily News reported.
