ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a St. Paul man with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a police officer in the face with an air rifle.

Fifty-three-year-old Robert Scott Wood also was charged with first-degree assault Monday.

According to the complaint, Wood taunted and threatened police, brandished a knife and a rifle with a scope, tried to stab a police dog and yelled “Just shoot me and get this over with.”

The St. Paul Pioneer Press (https://bit.ly/1vVRcI1 ) reports the incident began Friday when Wood’s girlfriend became concerned because he started talking about committing suicide.

Police say one officer was struck about 3 inches below his right eye by an air rifle. The officer was released from a hospital Sunday.

Bail was set at $250,000, and a judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Wood.
