EBENSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A 19-year-old former western Pennsylvania high school basketball star is going to jail after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm on school grounds.

The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1fJrzKq) Shaquan Reid, of Johnstown, was sentenced Tuesday to three months in jail and five years of probation.

The Greater Johnstown High School graduate was kicked off the team and out of school in February for having a gun. He graduated later in a separate ceremony.

Reid told a Cambria County judge he was holding the gun for a friend and forgot the bag in the cafeteria. He says a friend obtained the gun for self-defense after a group of friends had an argument.

Reid was also ordered to serve 300 hours of community service and pay a $300 fine.
