FALLSBURG, N.Y. (AP) - A substitute teacher’s aide is in custody after being charged in connection with the discovery of heroin and a hypodermic needle inside an elementary school bathroom in southeastern New York.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/1TCjnKk) officials announced Tuesday that 55-year-old Rhandye Dauch of White Lake was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic needle and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the heroin and hypodermic needle were found in late 2013 in a men’s staff bathroom at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School in the rural Sullivan County town of Fallsburg, 80 miles northwest of New York City.

Dauch was arraigned and ordered held in the county jail in lieu of $7,500 bail. It couldn’t immediately be determined if Dauch has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
