JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A 4-year-old girl is doing well after authorities say she was left in a child-care van for four hours instead of being dropped off at home.

Child welfare officials are investigating what happened Tuesday at the Chatman’s Christian Day Care when a driver allegedly drove for hours with the girl onboard. WJXT-TV reports the driver has been fired.

The girl’s mother became concerned when she returned home Tuesday night and her daughter was not there. Jacksonville Sheriff’s officers went to the house and also contacted the day care.

The Florida Times-Union (http://tinyurl.com/ofyvomc) reports the driver said he had dropped the girl off, but later said he had lied and had forgotten the girl was still in the van after officers found her sleeping safely in the back.
