GRAHAM, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have revoked the permit for a rally in support of the Confederate monument in Graham, saying the organizing group needs to re-file with a more accurate estimate of the expected crowd.

Graham police Capt. Steve McGilvray tells The Times-News of Burlington (http://bit.ly/1TESl50) that the department needs to take steps such as increasing staffing for the rally so it needs a more accurate estimate.

A Facebook page called “Alamance County Taking Back Alamance County” planned a rally Saturday at the Alamance County courthouse. More than 1,000 people have responded that they’re attending; the original permit authorized no more than 150 people to attend.

Organizer Dale Alvis says the group will re-file for a permit.

The rally was organized after a group said it plans to seek removal of the monument.
