TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Special session costs may exceed a half-million dollars by the time legislators finish their third stint of overtime in Olympia.

The News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1LcHMoj) Gov. Jay Inslee reconvened legislators after they adjourned in April without agreeing on a budget. This is the most time a Washington Legislature has ever spent in session in a single year, while the most expensive year for overtime was recorded in 2001.

Costs have reached about $440,000, a figure that’s expected to rise by the end of this third session.

Lawmakers are also getting $30 more per day for their efforts under an increase passed in 2014. They can now claim up to $120 in daily expenses.

Capitol officials say there are enough existing funds in various budgets to cover the costs.
