PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say the body of a 27-year-old woman who appeared to have been beaten and strangled was found in her West Philadelphia apartment.

Jasmine Wright, who lived alone, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:35 p.m. Thursday.

Homicide Capt. James Clark said Wright’s father became worried after not being able to reach her by phone and asked an apartment attendant to check on her.

Wright, a 2015 graduate of Drexel University’s School of Public Health, was described by neighbors as a quiet resident who had lived in the building for two years.

Police say there were no signs of forced entry into the home but are characterizing Wright’s death as suspicious.

Details regarding potential suspects weren’t immediately released.

Police say the medical examiner will determine if Wright’s death was a homicide.
