PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Officials are trying to find out what sparked a blaze in a northern New Jersey multifamily home that spread to an adjacent property.

Authorities say the fire broke out at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Paterson. The fire then traveled to the home next door, where firefighters were able to contain it.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at about 5:15 p.m.

Crews rescued two dogs and a bird.

One of the buildings’ tenants was injured and taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. It’s unclear what the tenant’s condition was.
