RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 32-year-old Southern California man has been bound over to Washoe District Court for trial for the 2004 strangulation and sexual assault of a Reno preschool teacher in her home.

KOLO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Kx3Rue ) that investigators said at a preliminary hearing in Reno Justice Court that Francisco Merino-Ojeda of Santa Ana admitted to the killing and sexual assault of 28-year-old Kyla Annan when interviewed.

Merino-Ojeda, a landscaper, is accused of killing her 10 days after breaking into her home and being scared off by her boyfriend. She was found dead on her bed on Sept. 23, 2004.

In January investigators received a citizen’s tip about the killer, and subsequent DNA testing linked the suspect to evidence at the murder scene.

A trial date has not yet been set.
