IRVINE, Ky. (AP) - Authorities have resumed searching for an inmate who they said escaped while being transferred to the Estill County Detention Center.

An officer with the Irvine Police Department told WKYT-TV (http://bit.ly/1GV5NNS ) the inmate was being transferred from London when he slipped out of the handcuffs and ran.

The officer says the inmate got into a Dodge pickup at the water treatment plant in Irvine. The security guard who owns the truck fired shots as the inmate drove off.

Officers say they later found the truck with three blown-out tires.

The inmate was still at large Tuesday morning and police say they think he is armed with a machete that was left behind in the pickup.

Officers haven’t released a description of the inmate.
