NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Chalmette man who killed a 49-year-old woman in a car crash just outside Jackson Barracks last year has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1KK1Ca7 ) a Criminal District Court judge sentenced 27-year-old Joshua White to five years in prison Monday but suspended one of those years. White will serve that last year on probation.

Officials say White was driving almost 100 mph on St. Claude Avenue and Delery Street in May 2014, when his pickup truck struck Pam Stigler’s car.

According to New Orleans police, Stigler’s car was knocked about 80 feet and she died at the scene. The speed limit on St. Claude is 35 mph.

White was initially charged with vehicular homicide, but last month prosecutors reduced the charge to negligent homicide.
