BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Police in the Maine city of Bangor have released the name of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car in downtown Bangor over the weekend.

Police say 50-year-old Robert Wallace West, of Bangor, died of significant head injuries on Saturday night.

The accident occurred on Hammond Street near Main Street.

Police say the driver of the car stopped and that no criminal charges are expected.

Witnesses told police that West was not in the crosswalk when he tried to cross Hammond Street.

The accident remains under investigation.
