NORTH BEND, Wash. (AP) - A King County sheriff’s spokesman says possible human remains have been recovered from a remote area of Mount Si, east of Seattle, and turned over to the county medical examiner’s office for examination.

KCPQ-TV reports ( http://is.gd/kPsQMa ) that Detective Jason Houch said the possible remains recovered Friday were spotted a few days ago by a hiker. A helicopter dropped sheriff’s personnel into the area.

Houch says the medical examiner’s office is expected to examine the find Monday to determine if it is indeed human remains.

The detective says the items had been in the area much longer than 2 1/2 years, so they would not solve one mystery. Wing suit-wearing skydiver Kurt Ruppert of Lake City, Florida, vanished over Mount Si during a jump in January 2013.

Mount Si is about 30 miles east of Seattle.
