BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - Police in Bellingham, Washington, say one man in a car was shot and wounded Friday evening in a mall parking lot.

Sgt. Keith Johnson says the victim had been in his parked car, a red Chevy Impala, about 7 p.m. when several men approached to have a conversation. Police are investigating what was said. Johnson says the man was shot “multiple times.”

The Bellingham Herald reports (http://is.gd/NqXoWP) the injured man was able to drive his car away from the gunfire but a short time later the car crashed into parked vehicles on the opposite side of the Bellis Fair mall.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital. Johnson said late Friday night he did not know his condition.

The spokesman says a second person in the Impala was not injured.

No one inside the mall was hurt.

The officer says the shooter or shooters left in one or more vehicles. Police had made no arrests by late Friday night but Johnson said they were working on several leads.
