COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Army National Guard’s 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is in Fort Drum, New York, for an annual training.

The training takes place from Sunday to Friday.

Brigadier General Mike Heston, land component commander for the Vermont Army National Guard, says the training exercise will simulate a multitude of training conditions representing numerous situations commonly faced by the armed forces.

The 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is headquartered in Vermont, and includes units from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan, and Colorado.

The Guard says it’s the only brigade in the US Army designed, trained and equipped specifically to conduct military operations in mountainous terrain.
