LYNDHURST, Ohio (AP) - A man has been hospitalized with significant burns after a gas line exploded in his northeast Ohio home.

Fire officials say it happened around 5 p.m. in Lyndhurst. Fire Capt. David Young says the man told officials he was working on a gas appliance in the basement of his home before the explosion.

Young says the man was taken to Hillcrest Hospital before being transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center with burns. The homeowner’s wife was also home during the explosion, but escaped unharmed.

Authorities haven’t released the man’s name. His condition was not immediately available Sunday.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the explosion.
