EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) - El Monte police officers who jumped out of their patrol car to chase a fleeing burglary suspect returned to find that someone had stolen their vehicle.

A Police Department statement says surrounding police agencies in the area east of Los Angeles were notified and the black-and-white was found just before midnight Thursday on an Interstate 10 onramp. The engine was running, the overhead lights were on but it was unoccupied.

The department says all police weapons were accounted for.

The suspect in the original burglary call was taken into custody.
