CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Coast Guard crews, along with members of the North Charleston Police Department and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, will be on the lookout for recreational boaters who have had too much to drink.

The agencies will be patrolling Charleston Harbor and the Intracoastal Waterway throughout the weekend in support of Operation Dry Water, which is also taking place across the U.S. and its territories.

A statement from the Coast Guard says the purpose of the operation is to significantly reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related accidents, injuries and deaths among recreational boaters through education, detection and enforcement.
