ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - An online petition has been started asking for the removal of the Confederate flag located at one northwest Florida courthouse.

WJHG-TV in Panama City Beach (https://bit.ly/1BLwCn7 ) reports that a petition was started by local residents this week on Change.org asking officials to remove the flag on Walton County Courthouse lawn. Other residents have started a separate petition to keep the flag in place. A Confederate monument at the courthouse site is maintained by a local museum, while the flag is maintained by the county.

The local branch of the NAACP is also involved in pushing the petition to take down the flag.

The debate has been placed on the agenda for discussion at the Walton County Commission’s July 14 meeting.
