PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) - The Jefferson County prosecuting attorney is weighing charges against a 12-year-old boy accused of sexual assaulting a 7-year-old girl on a school bus.

The sheriff’s office last month recommended that the boy be charged with first-degree rape, child molestation and indecent liberties. Deputies began investigating in March after the girl told her doctor, who reported it to authorities.

The Peninsula Daily News in Port Angeles reports that (http://is.gd/vGSN3N ) Prosecuting Attorney Michael Haas expects to decide on charges this week or next week.

Haas says the boy has since been expelled from the Chimacum School District.

District Superintendent Rich Stewart declined an interview with King-TV, citing the district’s investigation into the case.
