DAYTON, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a former Rhea County teacher accused of statutory rape with a 15-year-old middle school student turned himself in.

WRCB-TV (http://bit.ly/1JkndFx ) reports Billy Hoffman turned himself in to the Rhea County Sheriff’s office Tuesday morning and was released on bond.

School officials say Hoffman, a seventh-grade teacher at Rhea County Middle School, resigned May 5 after an investigation began regarding suspicions of him and the 15-year-old girl. Hoffman was suspended pending the investigation, which started in early May.

Authorities charged Hoffman with two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and two counts of aggravated statutory rape. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.
