WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - Vapers in Westchester County are being forced to take their electronic cigarettes outside after lawmakers approved a countywide indoor smoking ban.

The Journal News reports (http://lohud.us/1IbRh37 ) county lawmakers approved the legislation Monday. The move expands the county’s smoking ban to include e-cigarettes and other devices.

Legislator Catherine Borgia, who proposed the bill, says e-cigarette manufacturers have used marketing techniques similar to those used by tobacco companies years ago. She says they’re deliberately marketed toward young people.

The CDC says the percentage of teens inhaling vapors created by heating liquid nicotine tripled between 2013 and 2014.

The state Legislature is considering a statewide ban on indoor e-cigarette use.
