OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Grants that help local law enforcement agencies target violent crime in their communities have been awarded by Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s office.

The Safe Oklahoma Grant program helps authorities target crime by increasing the frequency of patrols in known, high-crime areas. Established in 2012, the program is funded by the state Legislature and provides additional resources to fight violent crime through overtime patrols and enhanced technology and analytical capabilities.

The program also provides opportunities to learn about evidence-based strategies at the attorney general’s annual Best Practices in Public Safety seminar.

Grants were awarded this year to the Bartlesville Police Department, Broken Arrow Police Department, Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasha Police Department, Durant Police Department, Midwest City Police Department, Oklahoma City Police Department, Sapulpa Police Department and Tulsa Police Department.
