LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A new high school will be built in southern Lafayette Parish.

The Lafayette Parish School Board unanimously voted Wednesday to move ahead with building the high school on 600 acres of land it already owns near Youngsville.

That area was chosen because it’s one of the fastest-growing in the parish.

The new school is expected to cost $65 million and accommodate up to 1,750 students. The school probably will not include outside athletic facilities like a football stadium, but will include indoor athletic facilities like basketball courts.

Superintendent Donald Aguillard tells The Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1FwV3A5) the next step is to hire an architect and over the next several months begin deciding on programming, what will be included in the school.
