HOMEDALE, Idaho (AP) - An Owyhee County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged with DUI after police say he crashed his official vehicle into a power pole in Homedale while drunk and on duty.

KTVB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1SX1lmA ) that Deputy Kyle T. Pearson resigned from the sheriff’s office after he was charged.

Sheriff Grant says Pearson called dispatch and reported the incident as a drunk driver, but then after further questioning changed it to a traffic crash.

Police records show Pearson’s blood alcohol content was .110, above the legal limit of .08.

Pearson has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor DUI. He is set for trial before Judge Dan Grober in September.
