SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California Gov. Jerry Brown will head to Canada next month to address a conference on climate change.

Brown’s office says he will speak at the Climate Summit of the Americas in Toronto on July 8th. Other keynote speakers include former Vice President Al Gore and former president of Mexico Felipe Calderón.

Brown says California should work with other states and provinces to reduce greenhouse gas emissions ahead of a massive United Nations climate conference this fall. Representatives from more than 195 nations will meet in Paris for climate change talks.

Addressing climate change has been a central part of Brown’s agenda.

The Democratic governor is promoting pending legislation to require that half the state’s electricity come from renewable sources by 2050.
