FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A man was shot and killed Saturday near Fort Collins, but authorities say the shooting was a neighbor dispute and not related to three others in recent weeks that are under investigation.

The shooting happened Saturday at a home between Fort Collins and Loveland. Eric David Gray, 36, was arrested in connection with the case.

Officials haven’t identified the victim, but they described the shooting as the outcome of a neighbor dispute. The Coloradoan reported (http://noconow.co/1QeDb8i ) that officials said there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

“Currently this is being investigated as unrelated to any other recent shootings,” Larimer County Sheriff’s Office spokesman David Moore said.

The suspect in the case “cooperated and was taken into custody,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement late Saturday night.

The coroner’s office, forensics units, local investigators and Larimer County District Attorney Cliff Riedel remained at the scene through the evening talking to witnesses and collecting evidence.

“It sounded like fireworks going off. It was pretty damn loud,” said Keith Atkins, who lives down the street from where the shooting happened. “We never have anything going on around here. It’s quiet. It’s one of the reasons we moved up here.”

Some residents were kept temporarily from returning to their homes. As they watched the police activity, several said they hoped deputies had arrested a suspect in the recently linked Windsor and Interstate 25 shootings. A bicyclist, pedestrian and driver were shot in incidents that authorities say are related - though they haven’t said how.

The FBI has offered a $10,000 reward for information on the first two unsolved shootings.

The bicyclist, John Jacoby, 48, was found dead May 18 along a rural road in Windsor. On April 22, Cori Romero, 21, was driving on Interstate 25 when she was shot in the neck. She survived. All three shootings occurred within 15 miles of each other.

On Wednesday, William Connole, 65, was found dead on a sidewalk along a main street in Loveland. That shooting has not yet been officially linked to the other ones, though officials have not ruled out a connection.
