WHITEFISH, Mont. (AP) - A new visitor information center in West Glacier will allow local Chambers of Commerce to promote their communities to Glacier National Park visitors.

The Daily Inter Lake reports (http://bit.ly/1dWwDu8 ) that center will open July 1 in the old Belton train station alongside the Glacier National Park Conservancy’s main book store, gift shop and information center.

The Whitefish Chamber of Commerce has taken the lead on the project.

Chamber director Kevin Gartland says that most Whitefish visitors spend time in the nearby park, but not everyone who visits Glacier knows about Whitefish.

He says the park gets 3 million tourists a year, and directing 10,000 or 20,000 to nearby towns could make a huge difference.

He says the center will promote all Flathead County communities equally.
