ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage resident Jamie Lang built a tiny library outside her house as a way to better the community, and neighbors loved it. So she says she was shocked to wake up and find the structure missing.

KTUU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1AYo1gA ) that the purple box was part of a movement called Free Little Libraries, an attempt to improve literacy and build community.

Dozens of the libraries are found around the city, featuring small collections of reading materials for passers-by to borrow.

The Anchorage Police Department typically doesn’t investigate theft cases unless the value of a stolen item is $10,000 or more.

Lange says she hopes whoever took off with her library will put it to use.

She plans to build another. This one might have a camera and a chain.
