MARIPOSA, Calif. (AP) - Firefighters are battling a small wildfire that led to the evacuation of rural homes outside of Yosemite National Park.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention said the blaze broke out near a road south of Mariposa on Sunday afternoon and burned about 24 acres.

The fire forced the evacuation of an unknown number of homes in the area, which is about 15 miles west of the park. Residents were allowed back home by late Sunday.

Agency spokeswoman Lynette Round says the fire was 35 percent contained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
