EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - University of Oregon’s new president is going to be paid ninth-most out of 220 to public university leaders.

The Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/1KWskwj) the Chronicle of Higher Education’s salary rankings put incoming University of Oregon President Michael Schill’s $798,400 yearly contract among the highest in the country.

Schill starts July 1, and he’ll be making about 50 percent more than outgoing president Michael Gottfredson. Retention bonuses require Schill to stay at the university for at least five years before getting the full value of the contract.

UO is negotiating contracts this month with the Service Employees International Union for classified staff and United Academics faculty union.
